COVID-19

Important COVID-19 Update, FAQ and Resources

SEIU Healthcare continues to monitor the changing situation involving the COVID-19 pandemic. While the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has stated that the risk of a mass outbreak remains low in Canada, the Union is taking a number of preventive measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

In examining the recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Public Health Ontario, as well as the Ministry of Health, we have implemented the following preventive measures:

  • All Union events are cancelled until further notice. This includes our upcoming stewards trainings, all General Membership Meetings, and any non-essential meetings.
  • Labour Management Meetings, Grievance Meetings, and Bargaining Meetings will be conducted by tele-conference or video conferencing wherever possible.
  • Arbitration hearings will continue at this time, but will be reassessed as new information arises. Where possible, we may conduct these hearings by tele-conference or video conference.
  • To minimize the strain on the public health system, and to limit potential exposure and spread of COVID-19, we are limiting non-essential site visits and in-person meetings. Some Employers have already imposed restrictions on non-essential personnel accessing their facilities and SEIU Healthcare respects these requests as a preventive health measure.

To help you through this situation, we have created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document. To access our FAQ, please click here.

In addition, today we issued a joint statement with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), the CanadianFederation of Nurses Unions (CFNU), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), UNIFOR, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE). Click here to read it.
